The Best Drinks to Get You Through Thanksgiving

Inevitably you are going to disagree with someone in your family on some issue. Your entire extended family is going to ask you repeatedly why you don't have a boyfriend or what your plans are after graduation. Holidays can be tense and awkward, but thanks to alcohol they don't have to be.

Here are some drink ideas to add some cheer to your weekend.

Cranberry Mimosa

Everyone loves a good mimosa. They remind you of brunch and sunshine and happier times. Instead of OJ, try mixing your favorite champagne with cranberry juice. It's super simple and you can pour it as strong as you need to make that confrontation headache go away.

Apple Pie Sangria

This recipe is from one of my favorite aunts, Kim, and if I know her, I know this will be delicious!

1 honey crisp apple
1 Bos pear
1 green apple
Chop into pieces to float in sangria.

Bring to boil:
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Simmer for 3 minutes then cool down.
Add:
chopped fruit
1 bottle white wine (moscato is best)
2 cups vodka

To make it extra festive, drizzle caramel in the glass before pouring.

Cranberry Moscow Mule

Sticking with the cranberry theme, this is a slight twist on the popular Moscow Mule.

Directions:
1. Pour two shots of vodka over ice
2. Add 8 oz. ginger beer
3. Top off your glass with cranberry juice to taste and juice from 1 lime
4. Garnish with a lime wedge and a small handful of cranberries
5. Enjoy!

Angry Balls

Some might think Fireball is too much, I just think it's efficient.

Pour over ice:
1 oz Fireball
1 12 oz bottle Angry Orchard cider

If you're feeling festive you can garnish it with a cinnamon stick and apple slice.

RumChata with Coffee

This is a super simple drink, but it tastes amazing. Just brew your favorite coffee and add in some RumChata. If you don't have RumChata, just add some Caribbean rum and horchata and it'll accomplish the same thing. If you live in a warm climate this is also super delicious with iced coffee or cold brew.

Hot Toddy

You don't need a warm body, just drink a hot toddy!

1 oz bourbon, whiskey, rum or brandy (your preference)
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp lemon juice
1/4 cup boiling water
Stir together until honey is dissolved and enjoy.
