New Music: Darja's 'How to Love'
2018 is the year of women redefining pop music once and for all. With hints of Dua Lipa and BANKS in her sound, Austin singer/songwriter Darja somehow manages to claim her own niche under the umbrella of powerful women in pop. Her new single is so catchy and playful we can't help but sing our new motto for the year, "I'm not your kingdom, not your queen." We talked to Darja about her new single 'How to Love' and her plans for 2018. Read the short interview below and keep scrolling to watch the official lyric video for 'How to Love'.
What is 'How to Love' about?
The song is about toying with the other person... kinda like "you think you can play me, but I can play you better," and it all comes from a place of not really learning how to deal with emotions/learning how to love. I think our generation has a little twisted view of love, we think it's all about games, sex and lust, the one who appears cooler and colder wins... which, don't get me wrong, can be fun in healthy doses and to an extent, but not as a constant behavior towards someone you're involved with. So, for How to Love, I put myself in a perspective of someone who's a hard-core playa. ;)
What were your inspirations for this song?
For this song specifically Tove Lo and Charli XCX, but I've been also drawing a lot of inspiration lately from Sabrina Claudio, H.E.R, Billie Eilish, Daniel Caesar, R.LUM.R etc.
What’s coming up in 2018 from you?
Lots of new music and new sounds! I plan on releasing more singles in the next couple months, and then probably an EP towards the end of the year/early 2019. I'm working on a completely new live set - which I'm SUPER excited about and which EVERYONE needs to come see!
