Most Anticipated Movies of 2017
Beauty and the Beast (March)
If you’ve been missing your Hermoine fix, Emma Watson returns to the big screen to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast. The film also stars the always adorable Dan Stevens as Beast (go watch The Guest) and Luke Evans as Gaston. Other big names in the film include Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Stanley Tucci and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Beauty and the Beast is one of many animated Disney classics being converted to live action! Be on the lookout for the live action Mulan movie that’s currently in talks!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May)
Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 1) was an instant hit, starring Zoe Saldana as “The Most Dangerous Woman in the Universe” and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, the film was a perfect balance of comedy, action and a little bit of romance. In Vol.2 we expect nothing less. The film is set two months after Vol. 1, Peter Quill and the gang are on a new adventure which will ultimately lead to Quill learning more about his parentage. If that’s not enough to interest you, there’s Baby Groot.
Wonder Woman (June)
Gal Gadot, breaks necks and records as she stars as Wonder Woman this summer. After over 70 years of history, Gal marked the character’s film debut (in Batman v. Superman). Gadot’s casting as Wonder Woman was met with some resistance as many comic book stans felt like she just wasn’t right. Gadot is perfect as Wonder Woman and embodies a headstrong, confident, warrior princess. In the movie, she helps Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine, bring an end to World War I.
Rock That Body (June)
Rock That Body is an all-around fun movie where five college friends get together for a huge bachelorette blowout! Sadly, their exciting weekend takes a turn when a male stripper’s body comes up dead. This movie stars some of our favorite actresses and comediennes like Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon. If you want a fun comedy with a little more context (think Hangover) this might be the one for you!
Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi (December)
Whether you’re a new fan or an old warsie, Star Wars VIII will be the film to beat in the December box office. Not only will it showcase the return of Luke Skywalker, but it is also Carrie Fisher’s final role as the headstrong, caring, Leia Skywalker. Carrie Fisher’s death shocked us all, she was a strong voice for mental illness and had such a positive and interesting outlook on life.
Carrie Fisher completed her acting for the film, but was not able to film any scenes for Star Wars IX. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with the blend of an actress, Ingvlid Deila’s performance and CGI it was possible for young princess Leia to return. This technique will not be utilized to bring General Organa back in Star Wars IX. We have no idea what this movie will be about, but we have our suspicions.
Pitch Perfect 3 (December)
Do I even need to talk this movie up? It’s Pitch Perfect! The oh-so lovable Ruby Rose will be joining the cast. Much of the plot is still on the DL, but you can expect to see all your favorites return! Rebel, Anna and Hailee will be reprising their roles as Fat Amy, Beca, and Emily, respectively. Naturally, like the movies preceding it, this sequel will be super star-studded—no pun intended.
