About the Artist
About me
Born in Stavanger, Norway, I am a 44-year-old artist working with cyanotype. My practice centres on the female presence: the tension between a woman’s interior life and the forms she is expected to inhabit.
I spend much of my time alone in nature. This solitude has become part of my working language. It changes the quality of my attention, allowing impressions to gather before I try to understand them. Something of that sustained, wordless attention enters the work.
I am drawn to what remains beneath a composed surface. Instinct, unease, sensuality, resistance. The feelings that can be difficult to accommodate within an image of femininity built around restraint. I want to give them a presence without resolving their contradictions.
In cyanotype, I have found a medium that holds this ambiguity. Its blue unsettles the familiarity of the photographic image, placing the figure somewhere between physical presence and recollection. Light describes the surface, while the depth of the colour suggests something that cannot be fully reached.
My series, Untamed, brings these concerns together. It considers the ways women are shaped by expectation, and the inner life that continues beyond those limits.
Making this work is an intimate process of attention. I return to the image, looking for the point at which a portrait begins to hold its own ground, when it feels inhabited by someone whose existence extends beyond what we can see.
